Science at school was controlled, being in structured lessons. My "engineering" at home was less structured. It usually involved taking things apart with scant regard to putting them back together again. However, these skills came over the next few years. I studied physics and chemistry when I went to grammar school. I went to college after that and studied engineering.

Get used to its sound by listening to music, watching movies in your target language (with subtitles in your native language) and listening to native speakers. If you are learning a language with a non-Latin alphabet, of course start with learning its alphabet!

You need to be open to new experiences and new ideas. The Latin culture is very interesting, but quite different than what you are probably used to. You need to be willing to embrace all the things about Latin culture, even the things you may not understand fully or that you are not completely comfortable with at first. For example, Latin people are very physical. They kiss you instead of shaking hands. If you are not comfortable with this then you will have to learn to be or at least learn to accept it.
